Additional Information

Reception

We’ll be at the Rahr Brewery from 5-8 PM. We’ll be giving you dinner from a food truck (see below), and Rahr has an open bar stocked exclusively with their beer. There will be non-alcoholic drinks available for those of us who don’t wish to partake.  Last call will be at 7:30, to give you time to enjoy that last pint before the event is over.

You’ll have to be 21 to indulge in the beer, but those under 21 are welcome to attend with their parents.

Before the Reception

If you’re coming to the ceremony, you’ll note there’s an awkward period of time between the ceremony and the reception;  we’ll be opening our house for you to go to for snacks and drinks until the reception, and will have directions available at the ceremony. We’ll be taking photos at the Gardens and there’s plenty of things to take a gander at in the Botanical Gardens, and you’ll also be in the Cultural District, packed full of museums. Such as:

Dinner

Dinner will be provided by the Crazy Sisters Food Truck.  You’ll get your choice of either street tacos or their spicy Mexican grits with beef, chicken or carnitas, served with rice, beans and their homemade chips, and a drink if you’re not partaking of Rahr’s beer.

For dessert, there’s a wide selection of mini-desserts from Bonnell’s Fine Texas Cuisine. Make sure to leave the groom at least one of their mini key lime pies or he’ll get cranky!

Dress

Dress is casual. For individual details about the locations, read on.

Gardens: The Hill Arbor is outside, in partial cover. Dress for the weather. If it’s raining, the Garden has alternate arrangements for us. The paths in the garden are concrete, although you may need to go up and down some steps.

Rahr Brewery: Their function space is right inside the brewery, a large warehouse with no air conditioning, which explains why we’re not having a summer wedding.  Dress accordingly.

Hotels

Here are three hotels near the ceremony and reception locations. The Courtyard and Fairfield Inn are close to TCU and about 5 minutes away from the Botanical Gardens while the Omni is on the south side of downtown Fort Worth, about ten minutes away from both venues. There are no hotels near our house as we’re on the fringes of the city, but either of the TCU-area hotels is within a 15-20 minute drive and the Omni is about 25 minutes away.

Courtyard Fort Worth University Drive
3150 Riverfront Dr, (817) 335-1300

Omni Fort Worth Hotel
1300 Houston St, (817) 535-6664

Fairfield Inn-University Dr
1505 S University Drive, (817) 335-2000

Update: last I checked the Fairfield Inn was full up, but the SpringHill Suites nearby had rooms. It’s still in the area, just a couple of blocks off of University and tucked away a bit so not noticeable.

3250 Lovell Avenue, (817) 820-0044

If you’re looking for a more sustainable option, we’ve got a couple of charities that are near and dear to our hearts:

  • Toby: March of Dimes, which works towards prenatal health and birth outcomes.
  • Stephanie: Nothing but Nets, a campaign to end malaria by sending mosquito nets to Africa. (Stephanie used to live in Tanzania and contracted malaria herself.)
